Joan Subirats is minister of universites, doctor in Economic Sciences and professor in Political Sciences from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has been the director of the Institut de Govern i Polítiques Públiques since its creation until July of 2009. Currently he is responsible for the doctoral programme of the IGOP (Institute of Government of Public Politics). He has specialized in public politics and in topics of democratic governance and innovation. He has collaborated in different media.

His areas of interest are the social and political innovation, urban and social politics, political participation and impacts in politics, and the politics of the technological changes.
