
Francesc de Carreras
Francesc de Carreras Serra. Born in Barcelona in 1943. He is Emeritus Professor of Constitutional Law at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Among other academic positions, he was the general secretary of the university (1980-1981).
He has published numerous studies on all areas of constitutional law: constitutional history of Spain, sources of law, political institutions (elections, political parties, monarchy, parliament and government), fundamental rights (freedom expression, data protection, language rights) , European constitution, and especially regional law. He is author, with J. C. Gavara, of a code of Laws Policy (Aranzadi, 15th ed., 2010). Among his recent publications include several studies related to the Statute of Catalonia of 2006 and possible constitutional reform of the state of the autonomies.
He is currently a member of several scientific committees and editorial boards of journals of constitutional law, including the Journal of Constitutional Law, the Journal of Political Studies, the European Journal of Fundamentals Rights and the European Journal of Constitutional Law. He was also director and member of the editorial board of several collections publishers.
He was a member of the Advisory Council of the Generalitat of Catalonia between 1981 and 1998.
He was editorial secretary and collaborator of the magazine Destino; (1966-1975). During 1980-2003 he was a regular contributor to the newspapers El País and El Periódico. Since 2004 works in the weekly newspaper La Vanguardia.
